First Impressions

The Boar Explorer oozes toughness and durability right from the first glance. The fat MAXXIS COLOSSUS tires are eye-catching and scream "adventure-ready." The design is clearly focused on comfort, efficiency, and versatility. They didn’t settle for 4” tires but opted to increase the size to 4.5” and it really does make quite a difference in the ride feel! 

Performance and Handling

Speed and Motor

The 500W motor (with a peak of 750W) is incredibly powerful and can tackle any kind of terrain with ease. With a top speed of 28MPH (when unlocked), this Ebike has got some get-up-and-go. Designed to be an easy conversion to a hunting Ebike, this is one of the tougher Ebikes we’ve tested this year. 

Battery Life

Two battery options are available: a 48V 14Ah and a 48V 20Ah, offering a range of up to 45 and 65 miles, respectively. This makes it perfect for long treks and extended off-road adventures, getting you into those hard to reach places and pristine hunting spots. 

Drivetrain

A 9-speed SRAM x5 drivetrain gives the rider a lot of gear choices, making it versatile for both flat straightaways and hill climbing. Something that is not normally mentioned in these reviews is the crank arms…and I feel like I’d be doing this Ebike a disservice to glance over how cool these arms are. They’re beefy, sleek, and are ready to take on those tough trails. 

Display

The SURFACE604 Color LCD Display is bright and easy to read, even in direct sunlight. It shows crucial riding data like speed, range, and battery level. The addition of a USB jack is a thoughtful touch for charging devices on the go.

Comfort and Ergonomics

Frame and Cockpit

The 6061 Aluminum Alloy frame is durable yet lightweight. The PROMAX aluminum handlebar offers a comfortable grip and makes maneuvering the bike simple. I’m a big mountain biker, and so I felt at home with these handlebars here. 

Seat and Posture

The SR Selle Royal Nebula saddle is designed for comfort, and the bike itself accommodates a wide range of rider heights, from 5'2" to 6'6", thanks to its two frame sizes (S/M - 17.5", M/L - 19.5").

Additional Features

• Torque Sensing Pedal Assist: Offers smooth and responsive power delivery.
• Hydraulic Disc Brakes: Provide excellent stopping power, even on tricky terrains.
• Built-in Lights: Enhances safety and visibility.
• Weight Capacity: Supports up to 395lbs (180kg) of total payload, including rider and cargo.
• Hunting-ready accessories like racks and hauler trailers. 

What Could Be Improved

• Weight: At 50lbs, the bike is on the heavier side, which could be a drawback for some users. But, for most, this isn’t going to be an issue. 
• Price: If you opted for the larger battery, you’ll add an additional $300, and if you wanted the suspension forks, front rack, and hauler, you’re easily putting another $1,500 into this platform. If you’re not hunting, and just want a trailer blazer, you probably wouldn’t have to upgrade anything.
