The Metroboard Micro Slim electric skateboard offers a lot of power in a small package.
Metroboard is an Israel-based company but assembles their electric skateboards in the United States. They’ve been around for a while now and offer a handful of high power, high battery capacity electric skateboards. This one, the Micro Slim, retains the essence of the company’s electric longboards but in a much more compact form factor.
Power - 3,000 watt peak, 600 watt nominal
The Micro Slim electric skateboard has a single 3,000 peak watt motor. The nominal power output is 600 watts, but don’t let that fool you — it’s still quite powerful. Even with the single motor, this board is able to climb considerably steep hills and allows the board to reach its top speed with ease. However, the single drive does mean this board is somewhat prone to wheel spin, especially on looser terrain or when trying to power around a corner. The motor is also used for braking, which helps feed some energy back into the battery.
Speed - 24 mph
The Micro Slim electric skateboard has a top speed of 24 mph, which feels even faster than it sounds given the comparatively smaller deck, which is 29” long and 9.5” wide. Riding at top speed feels secure thanks to the concavity of the deck, which allows for a good grip purchase when riding, but it’s more prone to speed wobbles than its big brother, the Stealth.
Battery and Range - 12.8 ah battery, 27 mile range
The Micro Slim electric skateboard has a 36 volt system and offers two options for batteries, a 4.4 ah that allows for a max range of around 10 miles, and a 12.8 ah that allows for a max range of about 27 miles. The larger battery is an upgrade option and costs an additional $250. Even the standard 4.4 ah battery is much larger than most of Metroboard’s competitors, but the upgraded 12.8 ah battery really places this board above the rest when it comes to range.
Price - Starting at $1,099
Starting at $1,099, the Metroboard Micro Slim electric skateboard is competitively priced for what it offers. The price can climb up to $1,499 though with upgrades, which include the larger capacity 12.8 ah battery, larger 97mm wheels (standard wheels are 83mm) and more powerful 10 watt output lights (standard lights are 2 watt output).
Who’s it for - Urban commuters
This feels like a good choice for those looking for an electric skateboard to commute longer distances, but don’t want to lug around a longboard through the city. The compact size makes it easier to actually carry the Micro Slim into a coffee shop, the office or wherever you end up going on your ride. The power and speed means the Micro Slim can race through traffic, and also up hills. When it comes to offering big things in a small package, the Micro Slim is hard to beat.
