Mid-Drive

Mid-drive electric bikes have a motor mounted in the bottom bracket (right between the pedals). While more expensive than wheel-mounted hub drive motors, mid-drives offer increased efficiency and power because they use the same drivetrain as the human-powered pedals. When you shift down to a lower gear it gives the motor a mechanical advantage that makes a huge difference when climbing hills! Mid-drive motors typically have advanced sensors for smooth and responsive pedal assist and generally provide a better riding experience than most hub-drive motors. This isn't to say that mid-drives don't have downsides; you'll need to replace drivetrain components (such as chain and cassette) more frequently, and more powerful motors can even snap chains if you push them too hard. Most mid-drives only support pedal assistance, so if you're set on having a throttle you should consider a hub drive instead.

It’s hard to create the perfect electric trike, but Evelo has come awfully close with the Compass. This three-wheeled green machine is expertly designed, with all the right components in all the right places, and represents the pinnacle of safety and stability for electrified three-wheelers.And the starting price accurately reflects this. We’re looking at an MSRP of $4,699 USD. And at the time of this review, Evelo is offering a $250 discount, which brings the price down to $4,449 USD. That’s still a lot of cheddar, but every bit of savings helps.

The Flluid 3S is the more approachable step-thru partner to the 2S, both of which share an impressive load-out of top-tier components and amazingly sturdy (and eye-catching) design... which comes as no surprise considering they were engineered by none other than Erik Buell! These ebikes are currently on INDIEGOGO and we got to spend an afternoon testing out the prototypes, and they definitely live up to the hype. Stay tuned for a full written review, and in the meantime check out our featured video exploring both 2S and 3S prototype models.

The Rambo Rebel ST is the latest model from Rambo Bikes and it’s exactly what you’d think it would be–a sleek design, robust performance, and versatile functionality. The step-thru frame makes it easy to hop on and off, the fat tires unlock off-road capabilities, and the integrated battery seals the deal that makes this one of the raddest hunting bikes around. Whether you're actually looking for a hunting Ebike or just a reliable ride for cruising around town, the Rebel ST is a great option to consider.

When it comes to luxury and ease of use, the Evelo Omega electric bike is hard to beat. This step-through cruiser is comfortable, powerful, approachable, quiet as the crypt, and just all around groovy. The Eunorau Specter-ST is an absolute monster of an electric mountain bike. We’re talking air suspension in the front, air suspension in the back, g-force inducing hydraulic disc brakes, a Sram NX 11 speed derailleur, and of course let’s not forget about the trail destroying 1,000 watt Bafang mid-drive motor. Like I said, the Specter-ST is a monster.

Well hello there, fellow ebike friends and welcome back to another episode of Electrified Reviews! Today we’ve got the XPremium, a super interesting folding mid-drive, e-bike from Lectric, who by now, pretty much everybody has heard of. Lectric is well known for making some of the most affordable e-bikes on the market today, without skimping on quality. And really, that’s the important part. And we found this to be true in both our review of the Lectric XP, and the XP Step-Thru, which admittedly, is pretty much the exact same bike but with a step-thru frame. But still!

Today we’re reviewing the AddMotoR Wildtan M-5600 and let me tell you this is the one fat tire electric bike to rule them all. And not just because it has some great specs, but because it has the fattest fat tires we have seen to date. 4.5 inches by 26 inches, just for the record.

Hello and welcome to Electrified Reviews! Today we’re reviewing the Eunorau Specter S and let me tell you, this is one lean, mean, trail-eating machine. The Specter S is an exceptionally capable full suspension electric mountain bike with top shelf components all around, incredible frame geometry and enough power and torque to tear up even the steepest inclines.

Today we’re reviewing the Ontro G1, or as I’ve come to call it, the Cadillac of city commuters. This electric bike has some seriously nice top-shelf components and is highly functional and versatile. But, with high quality comes a high price tag, and the G1’s MSRP clocks in at a hefty $2,899 USD. Thankfully, the G1 is launching on Indiegogo which of course means there’s going to be quite a bit of savings for the early adopters. The Indiegogo price starts at $1,699 USD. Oh, and there’s plenty of upgrades on the table too.

Today we’re reviewing the Eunorau FAT-HS electric bike, which has a very functional and very sweet dual battery design with a huge max range of nearly 85 miles. This fat tire mud machine is also incredibly fast and torquey, and is overall just a really cool ebike. This thing is just perfect for deep backwoods exploring. The FAT-HS has two frame sizes — 17” and 19” and one color, matte black with orange accents. With a starting price of $2,799.0 USD, the FAT-HS is far from affordable, but it’s also far from your average electric mountain bike.
